When you run out of 'bore' designations then you class your gun by actual diameter of the hole down the barrel -
i.e. 1-1/4", 1-3/4" etc.

Russell, if I remember it correctly someone from UK gave big bore designation and the numbers looked like 12g 10 8 6 4 2 1 0 (zero!)....
Or I'm wrong?

The English had bore sizes up to "A" gauge that was 2 inches in diameter and the Belgian sizes at one time went up to "1" gauge
at 35.0 mm in diameter acording to the Dixie Gun Works catalog in the reference section in the back of the catalog.
