Does anyone here have experience with the Vincenzo Bernardelli doubles like the Uberto, Roma, or Gamecock series of boxlocks? I have heard that these are pretty good guns for the money. Are there any special qualities or any quirks to be aware of?

I have a 20 aguge Gamecock DeLuxe that I have had for quite some time now. I have had no problems with it to date. It is my go to gun for pheasants and it is also the gun all my friends want to borrow!

had a roma 6e once and loved it. had to sell to pay for a transmission rebuild. would have preferred keeping the gun.

I had a Gamecock 20 and I wish I had held on to it. Light to carry and no problems at all. don't really know why I sold it.

My 20ga. VB Hemingway DL has been my go-to gun for a decade. Very well made and reliable.

I have a 1960s vintage "Gamecock Deluxe" (Roma 3E) that I've had for about 6 years and primarily use as a grouse gun in the early season when the leaves are on and the ranges short (like it will be a week from Sunday when the season opens!). It is somewhat specialized because of the 25" barrels and cyl/imp chokes but has been quite satisfactory; triggers are crisp and the ejectors work every time. My wife shoots informal skeet with it sometimes. Wood is handsome but not beautiful. Like many Italian doubles, the trigger guard isn't made for cold climates and fat hands.

I had a plain extractor "San Uberto 1" 12-bore back in the early '80s. It was a reliable gun but I felt that the 12 was somewhat heavy for the guage and also didn't balance the way it should have. That gun also had 25" barrels and the heavy action made it 'way too whippy. It would have made a nice duck gun with 29" (metric) or 30" (inch) barrels. Wood was "palette grade."

I also have a pre-war (1931?) hammer 16 that is just about perfect for grouse and pheasant. I believe it is comparable to the middle grades of "Italia." Wood is very nice; red with black streaks.

What's funny is that when you go to their site:
http://www.bernardelli.com

Their shotguns are listed under the rifle section. Is rifle the word for shotgun in Italy?

Is V. Bernardelli even making SxSs any more?

Most of the content of their website is lifted from the old 1992 catalogue. I know they stopped importing to the US in the 1990s. The only SxS they show on the website is the Hemingway, and they provide no information on availability, cost or distribution.

Has anyone actually seen a new or recent VB production, or is the website all fluff and no guns?
