Interesting question. I just ran through dozens of Daly pictures and note that a fairly small percentage have straight grips. I saw one hammer straight grip and it had a long tang. I saw Three hammerless straight grips , with two having long tangs, and No. 3702 having a short tang that seems to look correct.

My straight grip hammerless Diamond Grade pigeon gun has a long tang. Serial number is 685 I think.

I am not at all sure those stocks are original. Mr. Jones I believe has a very skilled stocker working for or with him either on staff or on commission. Those might well be restocks with the short guard from an old pistol grip stock straightened out. It just seems that a great many of his guns are nicely restocked exmples to me, perhaps some of them just nicely refinished and recheckered. I can't be sure of this, I have never handled his guns, my opinion is based merely on several years of droooling ovr his offerings.

My 20 gauge 185 has a long tang and is straight-gripped.

Not all straight grip guns are anywhere near equal either, when it comes to tang length. Example: my Miroku sxs has about 6" of tang behind the trigger guard, while my AyA 4/53 has about half that. And my Lindner Daly 185 (with round knob) has a tang that's scarcely shorter than the AyA.

Chief, I regretted that post shortly after the fact and am glad to took it well.
What I really meant was that I see nothing in the (reasonable quality) photos that would indicate to me that the guns were restocked. More likely to me, but I am trying my best to refrain from speculative conjecture, Lindner inventoried pistol grip type guards and used them on both styles of guns at the time of manufacture. Best, Steve

Mr. Hughes, I have two of your books. I have seen your contributions on this site for some time. It is abundantly clear that you know far more than I concerning stock making. I have no problem at all accepting that fact. We are cool, thanks for the second post.
