David sent me this Purdey stock for Monogram engraving.
It seems the Father is handing it down to the son, and they wish to have both sets of monograms, one having already been done.
The job is to design and apply the new monogram using the old block, so that it all matches up.

1 the two ovals
2 Taped up to protect the wood
3 Applying the smoke
4 the smoked oval
5 lifting the pattern in smoke with tape
6 the smoke print
7 using the light table and a blow up of the smoke print to design the new letters to match the old.
8 I didnt like the spacing, or the width so I cut them up
9 and stuck them back together
10 reduced on the copier, cut out, and ready for transfer
11 Acetone applied
12 the transfer
13 cutting the transfer
14 guide lines for crosshatching
15 after the hatching is cut, its inked
16 finis

Excellent work Barry,

Do you know if David had to refinish the buttstock after the monogram oval was inlet? I need to have one done and am curious whether it can be done without disturbing the original finish.
thank you
