I've always wanted a bar-in-wood, thumb opener, hammer gun, and I really like this one! Let me know what you think, please? binko http://gunroom.shootingsportsman.com/listing/2075

Binko I don't want to rain on your parade it's a nice gun but, I think it's too pricey. JMHO

While a bar-in-wood thumbhole is not that common, this one does seem a bit pricey considering the sleeved barrels. If it didn't say "Purdey" on the locks it might bring half the asking price. Maybe.

Mike, you think they'd come off 10%-12%, or how much?

Well, what do you think a good price would be...considering it is a Purdey?
I've got enough hammer guns but no bar-in-wood type, so that's going to be my next purchase. I am not going to compromise on that point, but brand is not important.

Dustin, I really like that gun but it's not a BIW so it has to go further down the list. This one is really nice for the price too, it might could sway me at $1,500.00. http://gunroom.shootingsportsman.com/listing/2039binko

Binko, just remember this: in America a sleeved gun will never be a collector gun, though it might be a good shooter. If you're still interested be sure to find out who sleeved it. There are a lot of basement mechanics who didn't do a very professional job of sleeving. If Purdey did the sleeving it would help the value quite a bit (IMO).

binko Bar in wood...very cool no doubt about it. I'm sure you probably already know this, but you better hope the gun you finally decide on has no stock issues. I had a conversation with a English stockmaker (former H&H guy) about what a pain the a.s.s. these things were to work on and restock. Very expensive undertakings the both. Here's a nice B.I.W http://www.vintagedoubles.com/inventory.php?sort=1&process=fullview&gunID=31Less money than the Purdey and not as beat up, it is sleeved though. By the way, I have no affiliation/relationship whatsoever with Vintagedoubles....I just browse the site alot :-) Dustin
