That about sums it up Grant. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Now what do all of you think would happened if Grant had submitted this to a newspaper as a "Letter to the Editor"? Do any of you think this would have been printed? What about if he had asked to be allowed to air these views on one of the TV Networks? Would he have been allowed to? He probably could have made these statements on talk radio just as he did here on the Internet. Do any of you really wonder why a new major concern of the Socialists is to get "fairness" introduced into and control over these two mediums? Jim

Dearest Grant -- I'd like to thank you for the splendid dissertation on baloney and bile. I'm pleased you are articulate and intelligent, but the best way to exhibit those qualities would be to avoid writing vacuous bumper sticker philosophy and tired cliches -- though I was impressed with "trepidation", a fine word. Well done!! My goodness, but you really got your knickers in a twist over my "Leftist" post didn't you? Judged solely from your post (which I didn't get, unfortunately, but at least you had the good judgment to include it here, in a generous act of bi-partisanship) what, exactly, is the name of the parallel universe you inhabit? If you really are interested in a dialogue, you're always welcome here at Mill Creek in Otego, NY>, because I don't really believe this is the correct forum for a pissing match. Best of good fortune to you. And Grant? Try some Rolaids for that dyspepsia you suffer from. It'll help. Will

Will S:
You ramble on there Will S....but please answer everyone's question.....what is YOUR sensible gun control ???.... Or can you explain it ????.... Or is it whatever your administration warrants as corrective action ??
Are you really proud of what your President is doing with our country in just six weeks.....??
Good Luck Will S.

Will, I am asking for the third time now. Can you tell us one "sensible or reasonable" gun control law you would support, why you would support it, what it would accomplish (how it would reduce crime or the illegal use of firearms) , and why you would support it if it puts the burden on law abiding citizens.
I am not trying to provoke anyhting other than an exchange or perspectives. Old Mod. 70 provided a detailed list of his opinions (and wasnt even asked). If you are uncomfortable discussing, fine. It would just be nice to hear the other sides reasoning and logic, coming from a gun owner. Maybe you see something I dont.

Brian -- Because I believe you are sincere and aren't ready to paint a bull's-eye on my back, I'll try to answer your question tonight.

Brian -- My initial post was directed at the one-sided, and in some instances, deliberately (Mindless as I said, but this may have been ill-advised) provocative stone throwing at those who take a stance on the opposite side of the posters on this thread. I expected some heat, but had no intention of answering personal attacks nor of elaborating on my own beliefs. I just wanted it understood that this forum should not be an echo chamber and there are legitimate arguments to be made in support of those who advocate other approaches or who disagree with the majority view of this board. Let me be clear about this. I don't have an agenda and I don't promote legislation. If I'm presented with a choice, I'll try to listen to both sides. I simply feel that to lump all gun control legislation into one unacceptable boxlot is both short sighted and counter-productive. The best way to express this are quotes from a McIntosh column on this exact subject: "There are no simple answers to complex questions. The real answer lies somewhere in the middle, where it's hard to hear the voices of reason because of so much hysterical shrieking ..." "Nothing is ever as simple as the lunatic fringes would have it be." There are, unfortunately, these fringes on both sides. You, and others on this board, who believe so strongly and passionately on gun rights and object to any legislation do not do yourselves or your cause any favor by ranting and name calling. And then too, not all who disagree with you are your enemy. You asked what specifically I would support or cite. Difficult question in detail. I have no problem with registration and licensing. I've done the paperwork and classwork for hand-gun permits. I don't believe there should be unrestricted carry laws. I'm not much in favor of automatic weapons. I believe certain areas should be gun free, even though I'm of a generation that could take a gun to school and nobody thought you were there to blow away your least favorite teacher. I guess, ultimately, I don't subscribe to the Domino theory that gun regulation is the leading edge for gun banishment. I don't find it any more convincing than the theory was for world-wide Communist domination, that too, being a part of my generational received wisdom. Finally, I would point you to the Michael McIntosh column I mentioned earlier (and for which he was pilloried, but did not lose his job as Zumbo did) in the May/June 1989 issue of SPORTING CLASSICS magazine. It contains my views, reservations and uncertainties about guns and regulations. If you can, read it. McIntosh has a fluid style and it's a thoughtful article. Brian, I am not against you or any of the others on this board for your beliefs on this issue. I am against thoughtless name calling, rancorous partisanship and invective directed at groups in a scatter-shot manner. We should be able to disagree without being diagreeable. I wish you well --- in all sincerity. Will

Will: I for one will thank you for taking the time to make a rational response inre. to your postion on gun control. I also believe I ,for one, could rationally and objectively pick it apart. I will leave this to others on this board since I'm in the middle of something that's important and consuming my time at present. I will log back in here as time permits to watch the progress. Jim

A "Gun Free" zone. Why, just point to the sign, and those pesky, suicidal hellions bent on taking as many with them as possible will shrug and go home.
What a glorious concept. Problem is, it's been tried.
Columbine High School was a gun free zone. How would you reconcile your utopian belief with that fact?
What a grand, dillusional post, here in the heart of a BBS dedicated to free men using their second ammendment, god given rights.
I won't call you any names, here in public, but, I believe you have illustrated quite well, for all to see, what beliefs and names you would label me with, by the very nature of your post.
I have no, zero, zilch, problem with you, as a freeman, having or using any gun you choose in a lawful, responsible manor, as you deem neccessary for the preservation of life, liberty, welfare, and happiness of those you hold dear, and, yourself.
You have a problem with me doing the same.
This is a problem.
Best, Ted
