May I assume that matt finished barrels on a quality double gun have been bead blasted prior to rust bluing?
Therefore to establish a polished blue/black finish, the barrels must be sanded to a bright luster and reblued, correct?

Depends on how "matte" they are. Some quality doubles were built with less than shiney barrels. What kind of gun is it?

I dont care for the high shine rust blue/ blacking.I think that the subdued blacking that is well poished but not glossy is the way to go. Not a matte finish but the pre war look of so many guns.

Well, I cannot say how matt they are. I'll have a look at it this weekend. The write-up just says "matt finish". I don't know if a matt finish could be "brightened up" if one wanted without completely refinishing it. I suppose that an auto wax or Renaisance Wax might work and be completely reversable. BTW it is a Grulla if that matters.

I think what we are talking about here is what I call 'satin'.

It seems to have it's luster subdued. Anyway, I like it.

Matte, is what I call my Dehaan SO. Also called 'black chrome'; practically impervious to rust. I mean it is just plain dull.
