I have had for a number of years a Model 14, in 25 Remington that had some very unflattering amateur checkering applied to the stock. Recently this stock was sent off to Clint Meier, Lee’s Summit Missouri for removal of the offending checkering. I just got is back and was most pleased with the results. Clint sanded off the offending checkering entirely, and feathered the wood up to meet the metal. This thinned the grip a bit from side to side, but did not change it from top to bottom. Both the offending stock and forearm were then refinished to match.
Most of Clint’s work involves stock re-finishing, checkering, and re-checkering on much higher-grade guns than this old Remington. I must say his prices seem more than reasonable to me and I had the stock back is less than one month from the day I mailed it.
Below is Clint’s website for those interested and a before and after photo of the stock he did for me.
