Any comments on the fit, finish and quality of SIACE shotguns, especially hammerless doubles, would be welcome.

There was a bottom grade Siace on gunbroker a couple of weeks ago for two grand. The barrels were 26" and the "original box" showed 28". I inquired and didn't get much of an answer about that.
I just checked and its item # 121466298, and still available. Probably a decent deal if you want a self cocking hammergun...Geo

You need to say which model you are looking at. Like lots of makers, SIACE has made both delux guns and std grade guns. http://www.siacearmi.com/production.htm

I've been at SCI plus Dallas for the last couple of weeks, i.e., the reason for my delay in answering. I have a SIACE imported in 1998 by New England Arms. My 12ga is a self cocking, hammer, ejector model, English stock, splinter forearm, with a manual tang safety, 27" barrels, and very nice wood. I've had the gun about a year now and use it regularly at 5 Stand and Sporting - for far it's performed 100% - I wish I could say the same about my shooting.

It is usually unproductive or misleading to try to define a gun's quality by the maker's name. As noted, most makers supply a range of original quality grades. Therefore, it is necessary to include the gun's model along with the make. The price of the gun will give you a strong clue as to quality. There are no elves stashed away in cottages in the forest who turn out only best quality guns for farmer grade prices. A sound, shootable gun can be made for a few hundred dollars. A decently finished gun can be made for a few thousand. The last few % points in quality cost a lot of money.

I was told by a very reputable source that this gun came lately from Dewings and that there were "quality issues" with many of them. I'll pass on the gun because of this information.
