I have a Suhl gun built by Emil Kerner & Sohn. On both barrel flats and the water table is a stamp reading Bemesu in a cursive script. And the tail pf the ‘u’ hooks around and underlines the whole word. What is this mark?

Yeah, in a round-about way. I'm not sure that the owner of the novel idea of the Kerner-Anson is certain, but it was more than likely Erst Kerner of Suhl, son of Emil Kerner. But Emil may have been involved? I'll check......

"This is Emil Kerner's improvement on the Anson and Deeley boxlock. By relocating the sear detents from the bottom of the hammers to the rear tops, as far away from the fulcrum as possible, Kerner greatly reduced the pressure the detents have to hold. The improved leverage makes secondary intercepting sears unnecessary. Simson/BSW incorporated Kerner's top-hinged sears into their boxlocks in the 1930s. Since then these sears became the Suhl industry standard. All post-WW2 Simson and Merkel boxlocks feature Kerner's sears. Barthold's "Jagdwaffenkunde", the GDR time textbook for gunmaker apprentices, show no other boxlock design."
It was adopted as the staple and workhorse in Suhl and was prolific even until today?

I think you are correct. As a matter of interest concerning Emil's grandson, but an altogether different action. He showed me a sample(muster) of a tip up single shot action that had de-cocker/cocker thumbslide instead of a safety. It worked with a coil spring driving the firing pin, without any hammer(schlagstuck) at all. This was the last time I saw him Dec 1981 or Jan 82. While you are researching patents, see if you can find a "Kerner" patent for this action from 82 or later. I'm sure he is gone now and I often wondered about the action that should make up into a nice, economical "stalking rifle". BTY, while not likely affecting the patent(if any), the sample was made of Dural that his other grandfather, Meffert, was a pioneering user of.

I figured that the barreled action was made for Kerner by either Sauer or Merkel. And that answers the question as to which one.
This one in particular is a 30” 12g chambered 2-3/4”. And is a sideplated boxlock.
