Regards to all, glad to be here.
I have na old Sauer double 24 gauge serial # 197637.
Made in Suhl has written on both barrels J.P. Sauer Sohn and Fluss Stahl which I understand is a type of steel.
Is it possible to know when was it manufactured?
Thanks, regards, Nicioli

Are these numbers good for guns made by Sauer for other retailers as well. Thanks.
Sure, if the firearms merchant adopted Sauer's serialization. Sometimes on Sauer's badged as some other firearms merchant's wares, one sees Sauer's serialzation on the left side of the aft lug.

Thank you. I will have to look.
Thanks, if I understand correctly 197637 means it was made in 1914, right?
Regards, Nicioli
Nicioli, yours appears 1913. Found mine as well. Thanks for the info Raimey.
I always have to question if the number is the first or last of the year....
Thanks for the info folks.
Regards, Nicioli
PG, can you post an image of the side of the frame & of the lug which wears the Sauer serialization?

Oh Boy!. I just packed it up to send off for a tune up and cleaning. If I do not make it to UPS today I will pull it out and post photos. Otherwise it will have to wait till I get it back.
Left side of frame and left side of lug.
Hi, just one more piece of information about the serial #.
Itīs located in my shotgun on the part of the trigger guard that extends and is secured to the stock( english type, no pistol grip) via 2 screws.I should note too that that firearm has a bolt( Greener ? ) to close the action.

The Sauer hammergun has the very expensive tubeset, the process which found protection in several countries.

I believe 1897, 64828. Enough of my gun, not meant to hijack Nicioli's thread.
It looks like 1897 ended with 63401, however as always, I could be wrong.

So this brings up a good question. Are those numbers beginning of year or end of the year. I have always thought it was beginning of the year. This inquiring mind would like to know!
I'm not sure of that list but Jeff Stephen's in DGJ gives:
1896 - 57,801 - 63,400
1897 - 63,401 - 69,100
1898 - 69,101 - 75,100
Noted as "...Estimated Year of Production Table". The block of steel that was to be a sporting weapon was issued a serial number near that date, but doesn't consider completion.
