I have a nice little 98 action rifle in 5.6x52r. It was number 115 through proof 8/39. The barrel is marked Willi Fehringer Gewehrfabrik,Zella_Mehlis. It is Bohler steel and has the expectected B,U and G proofs as well at the Nitro.
Can any of you knowledgeable folks shed any light on Herr Fehringer? Was he a maker or just the retailer?

Maker & I believe he had a son named Hermann. Pleasure us with some images or forward them to me & I'll gladly post them.

The Zella-Mehlis Fehringer family of gunmakers is listed by Kellner & Pape with two, apparently simultaneus addresses, Anspelstrasse 50 and Unterzella 10, perhaps shop and home. Apparently it encompassed 3 Generations. Hermann is mentioned in 1913. In the 1920s they were known as Fehringer & Söhne, with Hugo and Erich at the same addresses. Willi finally continued from about 1935 to the end of WW2.
