barrel marked .256 krag and "day". Has anyone seen the day maker mark? neat / odd rifle. I will do a cast when I have the time to see what ".256 krag" is exactly.

Maybe this helps with the caliber: https://www.theexplora.com/a-rare-and-unusual-westley-richards-magazine-rifle/
That's very interesting. So, is it a Norwegian Krag or a US Krag?
US made Krag

Thanks for the pictures, I like the lines of that rifle. It's not quite the same thing, but close up pictures of that stock splice in the wrist area might be instructional on how someone might manage the appearance of butt transplants that're discussed now and then.

375whelenIMP,
If it is US made, the cartridge is more likely 25 Krag( 30-40 Krag, necked to 25 caliber, maybe improved) than 6.5x55. You should be able to tell which by checking if bolt face is for rimmed(25 Krag) or rimless(6.5x55) cartridge and "slugging" the barrel(.257" grooves, 25Krag: or .264-.265" grooves, 6.5x55).
Mike
looks to be a 25 Krag rather than a 6.5 variant. I wonder how many "day" made.
