Picked this up off of GB awhile back. Rifle was purchased for and made a hell of a trip back in 1924/1925.

Nice, do you have a plan for it?

I would like to have it built back into a functioning rifle eventually. I would like to find the book "Cairo to Cape: Four Afoot Across Africa", by Edwin S. George before I make a final decision on how it should be done though.

Nice!
Is there any stampings under the G&H mount?
It will make a great period rifle.

Great action to build on. Hoffman's are great too. Would be fun to build one in the Hoffmand style on that action.

The only way I could find a copy of the book was inter-library loan:

Please tell us more, it sounds like there may be a great history to this action.

From Carl Von Hoffman's book, "Jerry on Safari". He was the cinematographer for the trip. If I'm reading the gun list right, they took:
1- Holland and Holland double rifle in 600 Nitro
1- Winchester 1895 in 405 Win.
3- Hoffman Arms Co. rifles in 375 H&H (including Col. Waldon's rifle).
4- Colt New Service revolvers (Col. Waldon's was at auction not long ago)

From T. Murray Smith's book "Safari Trail". The "Waldon Expedition from Cairo to Cape" was his first job as a PH. He omits Col. Waldon for some reason, probably writing from memory i would guess. He also can only remember Carl Von Hoffman's first name.

Very interesting Irl. Research like Michael used to do. I look forward to seeing the action, and (???) subsequent recreation of the rifle(???)

Thanks Steven! It has been a lot of fun finding all this info and I'm looking forward to seeing this rifle come back to life. It will be in the Hoffman style, in 375 H&H, with a quarter rib.

From the Martin and Osa Johnson museum website. Col. Waldon is the second from the left.

I let one of those go a few years back when times were tight. Mine was in slightly better condition, but with ivory grips~~
Very classy revolvers, especially with the checkered Colt Grips!

I can't find "Osa at the bath" on the museum website.
