I haven't been on much of late, doing more reading than posting. However I have recently acquired an Orbendorf Mauser actioned 270 Win built by Norbert Fashingbauer probably sometime in the 60s or 70s. Serial numbered 113X. I'd like to post pictures of it for your edification but can't remember how to do it. Also have a write-up on Fashingbauer fro the 1963 yr in the American Rifleman. I realize most of the interest here seems to be pre war guns, however this is a quality rifle by a well respected gunsmith. Anymore background info on Fashingbauer would be appreciated.

Can you imagine what the background of the workshop photo looked like before they cropped it!

He did a number of things on this rifle I found most interesting, if you'll notice in a couple of the photos, he extended the tang and fitted a thumb safety. The rear sight pedestal is very nicely contoured as well. I didn't show it, but he fitted heel and toe plates to the butt and checkered the remaining wood. Not exactly the type of butt you would want to use as a hiking stick, but sure looks great.

That is a nice looking rifle. I remember seeing some of his work in the custom gun section of the Gun Digest back in the 60's & 70's. I've never seen one of his rifles in person but the workmanship always looked very good in pictures. He used that weld on Canjar trigger/tang safety conversion frequently on Mausers as did Kess Arms another Wisconsin gunsmithing firm that also frequently had work shown in the Gun Digest custom gun section in that period of time.

That is a very fancy rifle, looks like he pulled out all the stops!
Any sign of an engravers signature?

There are traces of rust in the grip cap and buttplate screw slots. I'd get a drop of oil in there, with a little tooth brush action before it gets any worse.

The slight rust in the screw slots appears worse in the photo than it does on the gun, however I am planning to take a little oil and toothbrush to it ASAP. Thanks for the suggestion. Do you have any recommendation for a quality cold blue to touch up a small spot on another gun I have?

not really, quality cold blue is something of an oxymoron.
