I have a weakness for the Rod & Gun Club sporters made for the GIs right after the war in Germany. It seems that most were built on Remington made 1903s and not 03-A3s. The inlays on the cheekpiece are silver and I think the diamonds are ivory. Some of the R&G clubs had pads made with their logos on them like this one. This one has the receiver markings removed but it is a Rem '03 and the serial number was restamped on the right side.
These are sometimes called cigarette guns as the work was paid for with cartons of cigarettes or so the story goes. The gunsmiths in Germany could not sell to the public so many worked thru the R&G clubs to keep busy. Michael had told me that it wasn't until 1952 that they could sell again.
