I have breech loading hammered Henry rifle #1009 and since I just got my copy of the new Henry book and I am trying to figure out exactly what I have. My question is that the bore is listed at .451. The chamber (I have not cast it yet) is for a long straight wall cartridge. The rifle is in need of some restoration as it is missing the hammers, firing pins, and firing pin retainers. Needs a new fore arm fit (I have the iron and a new un drilled tab is present on the barrels), and re-engraved. Bores are about mint so it is probably worth restoring if I can figure out what it is chambered for so any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Larry

likely .450 3&1/4" but it could be any of the Brit cartridges in that bore. A chamber cast is the easy part. Sounds like a costly restoration. I love a good Henry rifle, double or single either way. Best of luck with it.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking. I know it will be a bit pricey but I can do most of the metal work and coloring if I can find the parts and an engraver. Thanks, Larry

The parts will need to be made and the hammers are the costly part. You might get lucky and check with some of the Brit supply houses such as

The firing pins and retainers are much simpler to make. Henry made a tons of styles and sizes but your not the first one to want to put one right either. If you get the metal done there are several good engravers that are members of this site.
