The gun is a nice SxS side lock hammer gun I measured .38 inch at the end of the barrel and the case is 44.65 at the breach as best I cam measure..
On the bottom of the barrel are the numbers 453 .09 .10 9
on the water table is serial 6430.02
the barrel has NACHF
then F Spurny in Wein
bores are very good very nice wood and engraving

Any Idea of the caliber ?
Is Jos Heinge a good maker?

No direct answer to your question, but a track ..
F. Spurny has been gunmaker in Vienna,so the script
on your rifle will probably read "F.Spurny in Wien".
He has been "Jos. Heinige Nachfahren", means successor.
I believe to remember there was a highgrade Heinige
on the market in London a couple of years ago,
there is a Spurny in 24-bore(?) shotgun in Vienna,
Springer sold in its 16. auction lot 124 a Spurny rifle...
It has probably Viennese proofmarks, access to proofhouse
records no longer possible..

However these are shotgun cartridge dimensions. It is not a 24 gauge

A couple of pictures with all proof marks and barrel stampings would help.

Also a chamber casting in order to get chamber dimensions. Further slugging the barrel to get clear bore with lands and grooves dimensions would be good.

There are a number of European cartridges with approximately 9mm bores

it is not likely to get an answer with the data you have provided so far

Considering you measured .38 cal., and .02 probably meaning the year of proof 1902, I would speculate 9.3x72R or 9.3x82R.
And to answer the second question, both Heinige and Spurny were first class Viennese gun establishments. IMHO of course.

I haven't been on double gun and lost my Pass word ect..I'm going to find out the caliber . It has only had one screw turned that I can tell .Looks like it has never had the locks off.

Yes I would use a modern bullet.
Finding out the caliber is no rocket science. I just melt an old candle, prepair the gun (put a bit of newspaper into the barrel an inch forward of chamber, lightly oil the chamber), pour the wax in, wait a bit, take it out with a cleaning rod and put it into fridge overnite, take the measurements next day - and publish them here

You need to remove the barrels and photo all the markings on the barrel and the action. Until then, we would be working in the dark and cannot give learned opinions.

I did the wax casting and I got 44.15 case or 10.76 MM ....I'm not sure where to measure it is wider towards the breach Up to 11.49 mm the bullet is 37.95 inch or 9.48 MM wide. Length of the shell is 2 3/8 inch long or 59.71 MM ?????

Initial pass saw a diameter of 10.0mm so pleasure us w/ an image of the area of the interface of the flats & tubes where the final pass diameter is stamped.

Might be .400 BP Express Short or 10x60R. Not as common as .450 BP Express Short (11.6x60R) but common enough. I am talking about Austria-Hungary of course.

This is neat little gun that I can tell by the stock only that is has been hunted with but not a lot. My buddy's father in law bought it along with a lot of other guns Tommy guns ect.. that have never been fired since they were purchased.My buddy has never shot any of them except maybe a pistol and could care less about them.
