I recently acquired a little 410 Ward Patent Folder. Tight on the action with a spotless barrel. Put cracked sideways at the hand (it was all tapped up when I got it). One of the sidecheeks was broken off so reglued with epoxy. Admittadly I did n't get it as clean as perhaps should have done and it has failed again. And the epoxy was quite old.

How do I get rid of the oil in the wood so I get a decent bond. Soak in Acetone or Surgical spirit to draw out the oil. Or do I drill and glue in cross ways pins?
It all depends on the break and the details. Hard to know, even with good photos. Impossible to guess without.
Since the oil question was asked, I'd presume there is some. So yes, remove it. Because the crack is in the hand I'd think it should be cross-pinned as well...Geo
