Besides "very carefully" How do you prep an engraved receiver for re-case hardening without destroying the engraving?

First it needs to be annealed in a oxygen free environment, then polished bright with very fine paper. You need bright metal but do not want to polish off any detail. A fine wire wheel can help as well.
