I'm always tinkering with old hammer doubles. Right up there with missing hammers and forend iron is missing or wrong screws that hold the hammers on. Parts houses are always out of these screws.

Is there any company producing an assortment? Or have individual reproduction screws for these old doubles?

Have you ordered the Dixie Catalog?

I have one.... I've never had any luck getting parts from them. I even dropped in with a list of parts I needed. 0 luck.

You will discover that most of these guns were made before threads were standardized and hardly ever will you find a satisfactory replacement. This is a job for a real gunsmith. There are many places where you can try to go cheap but this isn’t one of them.

Anybody messing with old guns and needing screws, or just a home handyman, needs one of these. Mine was a gift from a friend who made me a replacement screw for a Belgian double's top lever. I couldn't figure out the pitch. He did in a minute or two.

I have a set in both Imperial and Metric sizes. Checks both interior and exterior threads (male and female).

Stan, that is a good idea, but they are not all metric, likely not even most.

Brit guns I have re tapped to 5BA.
Screw choice is easier then.
Bit of file work on the head & re engrave.
Screw head engraving is usually simple straight line stuff.

Sometimes I buy a cut up, de registered parts gun from a dealer.

If the gun is too badly gone it gets the hinge pin knuckle cut off with a 14" metal cut off saw, struck off the register as a destroyed action & sold as parts.

I used regular panhead 4-40 screws with fender washers to secure the hammers on my 1905 LC Smith 12 gauge hammer gun. They may not be original, but they work fine.
