Not the best at wood, but working to get better. To that end, I’m sanding gently with a 50/50 mix of Truoil and mineral spirits, which was advised by a friend who’s very skilled in this area. Unfortunately, I forgot to impregnate the inletting with super glue, after the acetone soak, and some of the slurry has wet the inletting.

Will the mineral spirits evaporate so treating the inletting will still work?

It should. Following this as well. Rubbing alcohol will remove it if you need to.

It is not uncommon to have to scrape excess finish out of inletting when done.

I like to do most of the finish work with the metal on the gun if possible. I've not sealed inletting with super glue, but I do often bed the actions to the wood, and I prefer to do this before I finish the wood, again, if possible.

cover the checkering with painter tape then apply finish.

Or blow it out with compressed air if you get finish into the checkering.
