I have a Lefever SBS 12-Gauge with a unique push style barrel release.

The foreiron release button is no longer retained (but I have it). There is a tapped screw hole in the foreiron that I believe formerly retained a small piece of spring steel via a screw in this hole to keep the release button in place. I can easily fabricate a replacement spring steel piece but need help identifying the screw size/thread. I thought it was a #16 but not sure. Can you guys help me identify the scree I need for this? I'm pointing to the tapped hole with the scratch awl in the photo below.

try screwing in a small wooden dowel and measuring it after you remove it to determine screw size.
You may also try cerrosafe, clean the hole, oil it, block off the hole with tape(if it is a through hole), and fill it with cerrosafe, Following the instructions for time, work the cast out and measure it. If you mess up, you can melt it out with a heat gun.

The methods above may work well. Since the threads are going into steel, you also might be able to put a taper on a piece of soft copper wire that is close to the correct O.D. and screw that in far enough to get an impression of the threads. Then you would use a screw thread pitch gauge to determine the correct thread size. I wouldn't be surprised to find it is not a modern standard size. I think the original screw had a pretty large head. I believe this forearm latch arrangement carried through all of the later rod cocking models, so you should be able to find a replacement from Gun Parts Corp., or other gun parts sources.
