I'd be grateful if anybody can direct me to information on a British maker of shotguns by the name of Jackson. Perhaps Nottingham-based. Perhaps casually affiliated with Wesley Richards. Thanks very much.

Chip: Thomas Jackson (NOT STONEWALL) is listed as a Gunmaker at 17 Upper George St, Bryanston Sq. , 1828-39; 29 Edwards St, Portman Sq., 1840-69;89 Wigmore St, W, 1870-72 & Thomas Jackson & Son 1873-79.

Other Jacksons were Richard, John, George, Benjamin Thomas, W.A., Willam & Thomas, Jr. all at various laces around London.(Source: Nigel Brown - British Gunmakers - London Vol.1)

I have a 12 bore gun marked Thomas Jackson.

Best Regards, George Lander

The most likely maker is firm of, John Low Jackson of Nottingham .This company was established in 1821 and ceased to trade in 1914.
The assets and name of the business were aquired by Charles Smith and Son, of Newark-On-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
In the 1970,s I purchased a Jackson Gun from Smith,s and can confirm that it utilised a Westley Richards action.
