Hello,
I've read some good information about the leg o mutton case here and I have one I'm going to restore. The case is not all that bad so I something to work with, unlike other leg o mutton cases I've seen.

I have plenty of time to spend on restoring it, in the winter months this would make a excellent project.

So what I am looking for is how do I determine who made this leg o mutton?

Spooky,
The case looks to be for an auto or pump shotgun or take down rifle with a 30" barrel. I suspect the 300D is the model number of the case.

Thanks

Are you in WasillaAlaske? I lived in Anchorage for over 30 yrs. The leather appears to be "dead" All dried out from age. It looks to be beyond restoration. I have done leatherwork for over 50 years and I usually know what I'm talking about. I have about 20 different lego mutton cases so I you are really in need of one let me know what you are looking for.

When you talk to leather experts, there is always a lot of "OMG" etc. Well leather is organic and has been found intact in 2000 year old tombs. Here is a 1890 thereabouts leather rug from India north of Bombay in Gujarat which I got in Karachi in 1977...there is no other example known and has been previously understood only by descriptions. I took this rug to several leather specialists including the Smithsonian 35 years ago. I haven't had a coherent or consistent explanation on the survivability of leather yet. I would welcome some leather specialists' opinions on this thread.

I was interested in reading this post as some have stated these cases as having some type of stampings on them.

I got this one in 1967 while in the service in Germany. The fellow that ran the gun club was a retired Sargent Major and tried to get you the best prices. I believe I paid $35.00 for this case. There are no markings on it anywhere. I bought it to ship home a Winchester 101 20 gauge when they first came out. I paid $166.85 and still have it with all the literature.
