I know this isn't double shotgun, but I find the posters here to be knowlegeable.

I recently acquired a Tranter pistol. I had always thought they were all British made, but now I wonder.

The top strap and only esternal identification is "Carl Delp in Darmstadt."

There are no proof marks on the pistol. Its five shot, cap and ball, double action.

Darmstadt is in Hesse. It was proably made before the unfication of Germany after the Franco Prussian war.

I would appreciate any comments. If there is a better web sight, please let me know.

I believe it was April 20th, 1860 when he was dubbed Hof-Büchsenmacher( Grossherzoglich hessisches - Hesse-Darmstadt - court of Ludwig III von Gottes Gnaden Großherzog ). Is the term Hof-Büchsenmacher present? Can you post a few images.

the "Carl Delp in Darmstadt," is theonly external mrking.

Under the but plate is the stamped in thewood "b Baen." at the same place is written pencil "10/5/61."

Well, I think May 10th 1861 just might be close to the completion date. Great find on that date, if that is what it is. Post 1860 or 1860 I would wager that Carl Delp would be taking advantage of the dubbing of Ludwig III and advertise as Hof-Büchsenmacher.

Bringing back an old but helpful thread )rather than fire up another semi-off-topic discussion). I recently acquired a 4th model Tranter, retailed by Rigby in Dublin, and converted to CF cartridge.

Have put a question off to Bill Harriman to see if the conversion is a Tranter factory job, but would like to follow up on Paul Buchanan's original question: is there a good online site to discuss these?

Related, a pointer to a sympathetic smith who could undo the long-ago Bubba-izing of the conversion would be really helpful.
