Search for the English Damascus Rosetta Stone - 09/29/12 06:44 PM
Thought I'd remind everyone that the search continues for a display or salesman's sample box showing named patterns, similar to this from Manufacture Liegeoise D'Armes A Feu
Gavin Gardiner had damascus segments which very likely came from a salesman's sample box in his 12-07 auction but they were not labeled and had become separated from the box
Roy Hebbes located a sample box in Canada, also without markings on the segments.
I have contacted the Birmingham Proof House, the Birmingham Science Museum (now called ThinkTank), the Royal Armouries in Leeds, Greener, and the Gun Trade Association in Gloucestershire without success. Vic Venters, Paul Stevens, and several others have been on the look out.
I'm fairly confident that I can correctly identify British patterns based on published illustrations, but would very much like confirmation from actual sample segments.
