Saw one of these devices about a month ago, just remembered it today. I vowed to remember the name of it, but promptly forgot it.

Anyway, it was on a Stevens singlebarrel shotgun, off the the left side. In principal, it worked like the magazine on a pump shotgun in that it stored a few rounds in a spring-compressed tube, and when you broke open the gun, you could pivot this magazine over the breech and load the gun. It was weird, and I doubt it was helpful in speed reloading, but there it is.

I wish I could remember the name and furnish a picture of this device. IIRC, some tool company made it.

"Alofs Reloading Magazine"
Invented in 1923 by Herman Alofs of Holland, Michigan. Patent was granted Sept. 9, 1924 and Canadian patent May 18, 1926. It was marketed by the Herman Gun Co., Grand Rapids.
From the Agust 1926 National Sportsman

I'll bet it played Hell with the Handling Qualities of the gun.

That looks like it! A solution needing a problem. Note "ingenius" spelling.

Actually, I think it was the same device but by a different maker. "Herman" doesn't ring bells.

I posted this on another forum and a guy said he knew a guy who could get three quail in a flush with a single barrel. Not using the device, of course, just fast loading with his hands. Hmmmm....while a good guy posted this and I wouldn't challenge it, I'd still like to see this happen.

A friend of mine has one of these in 16 gauge. I shot a few targets on the skeet field with it. Worked as designed. If you add the cost of a gun + reloader= entry level double.

That might have been the one I saw. Brushy Creek?

I actually sold one at the last Michigan Antique Arms show. I thought it was fun and funky, had bought it years before thinking I'd put it on a gun but never got around to it.

I put $75 on it and it was one of the first things that sold oddly enough. I think I paid $50 more than 10 years ago so apparently there are other guys out there willing to pay something for oddball stuff like this.
