You need pictures of the rest of the gun and it is much later than 1700 about 150+ years later.
Posted By: ellenbr Re: SELL GUN CHR. STURM SUHL. - 05/23/10 08:35 PM
It was probably made in the mid 1800s(1850s) or later. Christian Sturm was active up till about 1900 and I guess him to be the son of Wolfgang Heinrich Sturm, who at one time in the 1830s worked with Johann Gottlieb Sauer(1776-1843). Sauer and Sturm fell out of favor in the 1830s but had mended their association by circa 1850 with the German Navy contracted with them to build some weapons.

"rare" does not equal valuable,at least here in the "USSA"

The barrels probably can be shipped but really have little or no value.

Poor guy! Someone buy it; you could use it to mark a property corner or something...Geo

I've seen a few single tubes as property corners but never a double. Almost all the time the breech end was down and the business end was right at the earth's surface. I'd think it would drive better inverted. I wonder if it was common only in the South? Without the furniture, hardware, receiver, etc. I agree with Dave K that it isn't going to hold much value; probably not more than the minute bit of gold in the engraving.

Kind Regards,

I saw this thread and haven't had time to read it all but the topic of Sturm Suhl interests me greatly. For you see, my great grandmother's heirloom Sturm Suhl was stolen in the Second War and all we have been able to retrieve was the gun minus the barrels, plus one of Great-Grandma's nipples. Her other nipple, and the barrels, remain missing.

Yes, I have made billions in the potassium business and am wealthy beyond all measure. I have dined with Presidents and heads of state and toured the world over. But as I sit, as I often do, in my red flannel smoking jacket with my hound at my feet, mindlessly fondling Great Grandma's nipple in my fingers, I am haunted by those barrels. Why, if only they could be found I would pay a king's ransom (in potassium) to hold them.

If anyone can help, just let me know.

You'd be surprised at how often over the years I have run into old metes and bounds property descriptions where one of the calls runs to a "gun or musket barrell placed". I did find one of my corners which was marked by a set of sxs barrels off of something; one day I'll naval jelly the rust off that thing and see if maybe it goes with a Sturm Suhl muzzel loader with one nipple missing; I know just who to sell it to...Geo

Best one I've seen had the verbiage: "Beginning at a point where you and I stood yesterday; thence......"

mixers,

I give your credit for finding this forum, taking pics and getting info.
That said, you really don't have a "gun".You have just the barrels.
Those barrels have no value except for the scrap
No one here in the US would buy them.
Sorry, maybe bring them to a gun dealer so he will confirm what we are telling you.As Raimey states, the gold value.

good luck thou
