Ok here I go. What does the EL stand for on a Merkel SxS Shotgun ? I think the E is for ejectors but the L I havent a clue.
Luxury. I have a 147EL, a boxlock with ejectors and luxury wood.
I have a 201 EL, explanation as above, they call it a "Luxus" grade, apparently meaning luxery.
When I was looking at the Merkels recently, I recalled 3 grades of each model: 360, 360E, and 360EL. Would the "E" stand for engraved?
The Merkel SL's are sidelock.
"E" stands for auto ejectors,IIRC.

No, it would stand for:
360 = non ejector
360E = ejector
360EL = ejctors and luxury wood
Thanks to all. A good friend bought a 280/360 EL set and I was just not sure.

I looked at the Merkel site.
http://www.merkel-usa.com/core.php?dat=Y...TMwJnN1Yk5hdj0x360, 360E, and 360EL all have ejectors standard. "E" means something besides "ejectors".
Or look here
http://www.merkel-usa.com/core.php?dat=Y...TI5JnN1Yk5hdj0xAll the models have ejectors. The 1620, 1620E, and 1620EL all have ejectors. The "E" grade guns have a silvered and game scene engraved reciever, with a mid grade wood. This applies to the 360 series as well as all the other models except the 47 model.

Ok I have seen that also maybe English Stock Luxury wood ?
Click on the links. It's not english nor ejectors. That last link says what an E gun has except for the 47E.
One more link for the 360 model details that shows the corelation of "E" to engraving.

Chuck, I stand corrected!! I know when I bought mine I was told it stood for ejectors. I also looked at several 147's (not EL) and they did NOT have ejectors. I am now really puzzled. I may also be incorporating what I once was told about the Ithaca SKB 280E, i.e., the e stood for English stock. I have a 280E 20 gauge and it does in fact have an English stock as does my 147EL. Looks like a bit of research is in order. Thanks for the correction!!!
My 2 cents is the 1620 is the case colored receiver with ejectors. The 1620E is the gun with game scene engraving and coin finished receiver. The 1620 EL is the same as the 1620E, but has the upgraded wood. I could be wrong, but I think thats what it is. PS. The 1620SL is the sidelock version. None of the above designations have anything to do with buttstock types, single versus double triggers etc.
