Parisian Charles Francois Galand, maybe? In the mid 1880s he was at 280 rue d'Hauteville and possibly an office or retail outlet on Whittall Street, Birmingham. He had several patents and US # 140,028, http://www.google.com/patents?id=2eJOAAA...y_r&cad=0_0 . With Belgian proofmarks he may very well have been a firearms merchant.

Kind Regards,

I have a Galand catalog circa 1910. If you post pictures, I may be able to id the model.

Here is a bit about Galand:

Galand was a fabricant, a maker. He was also a dealer / outfitter. It was not uncommon to have showrooms in Paris, London, New York, etc.

The Galand name is mostly known for their trademark Velo Dog pistols. I believe Galand had something to do with the establishment of the gunmaking school in Liege. But I would be hard pressed to find that source today.

The firm produced most levels of shotgun. From cheap field boxlocks to some very nice sidelocks. He received both gold and silver medals for his guns. He was thought highly of by his peers, enough so that he eventually became a member of the jury for these gun exhibitions.
