Are you aware that Tinypic is owned by Photobucket? Likely it will go the same route as PB soon, so I wouldn't get started with it.

RR, is this your rifle? If yes, that is a nice high grade 99, can you post more pics of it?

Not going to get started with it for more than things for sale.

As for other pics on this BBS used for info Doublegunshop.com should really consider hosting it's own images. A 500 GB HD will host half a million average size (1Mb) pics, more than this forum will ever use and they will be here for posterity.

Not mine, wish it was. Saw pics years ago on the Savage forum and kept them with the idea of making a similar gun. Just the right amount of flash...I have the frame and the sight, have to find someone who can do the woodwork.

Very nice checkering. Looks to be Grade B checkering. A little unusual to see such high grade checkering on an otherwise non engraved rifle. I hope you are successful in your project.

Not only a gorgeous checkering pattern, but a very unusual pistol grip shape for a Savage! Most have either a grip cap or on deluxe versions an "S" shape to the grip. That one is shaped more like a Remington Hepburn, and is a wonderful treatment for this gun!
But I don't believe the gun pictured is factory stock work, as the lever is for a straight grip Savage, and not a pistol grip. I suppose it's remotely possible the factory could do a one off with a pistol grip stock, and straight lever, so I try to never say "NEVER". But just doesn't look quite right to my eyes.

Hi Vall, when you say straight lever are you saying the pistol grip lever as in like the Model G's and later versions? It is my experience that many of the earlier "pistol grip" stocks look just like this one.

Hi Lynn,
Can't say as I've ever seen that Hepburnesque shape to a Savage pistol grip, even in early guns? I owned a dozen or so at one time, and never had any with that style pistol grip, or saw any either. Have a good friend with a couple hundred 1899/99 Savage rifles, and I'll have to send him this picture to see if he has any, or has seen this style.
The G has a very pronounced pistol grip stock/lever, and early 1899's didn't have that. But they had more than this gun has. This one shows a bit of the slightly curved lever, but doesn't show the "S" bottom to the PG area. It's much like what Marlin used on their PG stocks.:

Hi Val, I can't disagree concerning the end og th PG as that seems unusual but then Grade B checkering on a non engraved seems unusual to me. As I do not know how to post pics here anymore I just sent you a couple emails containing pictures that may interest you. BTW the picture of the magazine cover of 3 rifles the one in the middle is most likely the rarest 99 ever made. Do you know why? Two my knowledge there are only 2 99's like it. One Savage built and the other one I made. I'll see if I still have any pics of the one I did.
