Hi all,
I just thought that I'd share this story. I'm a college student and I'm helping to run our skeet/trap club this year. It's not a real collegiate team (yet), but we shoot a couple rounds of informal skeet and trap with members of the local gun club every other weekend. Anyways, the previous club presidents bought two ugly as sin shotguns, a synthetic stocked Beretta auto and Benelli pump with our grant money two years ago. So, last weekend, during a shoot, both the auto and the pump got jammed so badly they were out of commission until they could be completely stripped and cleaned. How you can jam a pump gun that badly is beyond me, but I digress. Luckily, I had also brought out my personal shotguns, my plain Jane L.C. Smith field grade, and my AyA 116. These guns performed flawlessly, and despite the tight fixed chokes, we had people who had only been out skeet shooting a few times before absolutely crushing clays. In fact, I had a lot of people asking where they could find one for themselves, and telling me that no gun that they ever fired ever fit them so well.

Not long ago, shot a round of sporting clays with a group, all of whom except one were shooting vintage side by sides. The other gun, a modern OU, had various problems. The old side by sides just kept ticking along.

My L.C. has become known as the "magic gun" in our club. I haven't had anyone shoot it who couldn't hit something, once they get over the mystery of two triggers and an automatic tang safety. That brand new Benelli pump our club (foolishly) bought two years ago feels like someone poured a handful of sand into the action, felt that way out of the box, and points as well as a 2x4. What kills me is what they paid for it... The previous club leaders definitely bought into the "tacticool" advertisements in magazines. And no I'm not biased against pumps. My old Ithaca 37 is so slick the action practically opens itself when released, and they could have bought three or four for the price of that Benelli p.o.s they chose.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the T-shirts they had made. We're a clay shooting club, not a militia.
Enough about the past, I'm in charge now and we're heading in a new direction.

15 Benellis plus 24 Berettas plus 7 (fill in the blanks with any autoloader you want), would barely equal ONE LC Smith.

Never looked back, and couldn't be happier with the trade. Could have something to do with the fact that I foolishly traded a Fox Sterlingworth for the Browning.

K, you clearly are getting the hang of things. I started my SxS obsession with a Fox, now have three, two 12's and a 16. Am looking at another 16 gauge next week and feel like I have the absolute bare minimum of Ansley's creations. I have filled my safe with SxS guns and there are plenty more to get excited about. What's not to like?

Shoot more, shop less, James. I have 1926 Fox Sterlingworth and two each of Parker and L.C. of the American classics. No Lefever and Ithaca which for some reason I can't explain I am not interested in owning. I know they are good guns.
I am feeling guilty about all of them in my waning years. Not that I'm less interested or not hunting as much but now possessions seem a burden, having to dispose and how many doubles does one need anyway?
Paraphrasing Heston, it will be a double. . .
