Is that Izzo up for auction? I am fascinated. If he was in Naples, he most likely was a dealer. But I can not confirm that.

It would be worth all the trouble of making up pinfire cartridges to be able to own and shoot that Italian SxS.

Yeah - the Izzo is up for auction. But the auction is in Italy.

Amazing gun. Auction house claims that an Alfonso Izzo was listed in a some German book as gunmaker to the court of Napoli in 1850.

The Kingdom of Naples joined the Kingdom of Italy in 1861. That gun must have been made right around then.

The gold inscription on the rib identifies Izzo as the armourer to the King of Naples.

With kind regards,

Well that may be or it just may be pride. As the politics were very fluid then. When Naples was part of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, they still referred to themselves as the Kingdom of Napoles....

In any case, it would be great to see the proof marks on this one.

The opening bid + VAT + import costs puts it beyond my reach.

I dropped Czerny an email and requested to see the proof marks. They were kind enough to post them on-line.

Except for what I assume is the date, 1875, no other info regarding possible origins outside of Naples.
