Several years ago I had several guns from the New Orleans flood. Two had the dumbest presevation ricks I ever saw. They were wrappped in strech wrap while wet. Totaled a 16 Fox A grade and did the same to a nice 410.
To you guys on the east coast, if you have friends who don't understand guns but own some wet ones make sure they flush them with WD 40 (everybody has some)and dry them out. It's beyond belief what people will do.

Guys on the east coast have no trouble with salt-water-wet guns, above or below water, and don't see why it should be different in Louisiana, Bill. After the hunt, clean, wipe, oil but stay clear of WD-40, which I think means Water Dispersant for 40 days. Immersed, I asap flushed and soaked 20ga AyA in methyl hydrate/alcohol several times in plastic tube, no problems. Five months at five fathoms, my mint SW went to Nick Makinson for mint restoration. No gun should be lost to elements or negligence.

Worst I saw were some shotguns stolen in a burglary and the thief was unsure what to do with them so wrapped them in hessian sacking material and put them in an old diesel storeage tank with some diesel still in the bottom. Mostly high grade Berretas and Brownings and a decent Westley Richards. The wood had rotted and the metal parts were dark brown and with the sacking somehow impregnated into the metal. All total write offs. I had a look to see if anything could be salvaged but all were totally ruined. Lagopus.....

I am worried about the hurricane damaged guns, owned by dummies. I have every confidence that you and the guys who meet here know what to do. If you have a friend in the NY City area who was willed a nice Parker and stuck it in a closet now is the time to get him up to speed.

I thought mayor Bloomergirl got rid of all the guns in NYC.
