Double Gun Journal, volume 14, issue 2, Summer 2003. Page 143.

Just by pure happenstance I stumbled across a very interesting article. The subject of the piece is a gun built by or carrying the name of C.S. Rosson. Its a beautiful gun with alot of very nice features, obviously a high end gun. Looking at the pictures of the gun, I noticed that the pin placement looks very familiar to me. The author doesn't do that swell of a job describing the mechanism nor does he show pictures of the action flats or barrels flats. What he does describe of interest is this...the gun is a self opener with "openings in the slender frame", "pushrods extending thru the holes in the action body that somehow articulate the mainsprings".

Could this Rosson be built on Beesleys patent #425?? Sure looks and sounds like it to me! If it is....its the only gun I've seen built on that patent that doesnt carry Beesley or Lancasters name.

What are your thoughts?

That particular Rosson is built on Edwin Smith's patent 372,035 of May 5th 1932.

I hope this helps.

We've discussed them a bit here, Dustin. Alfred Gallifant's boxlocks were Rosson (Smith's) patent guns, IIRC.
I'd like one.

Does anyone have any pictures of E. Smiths patent 372,035 of 1932 action? I would love to see it. I haven't gotten too deep into this yet, but how does this action differ from Beesleys patent? I know where a couple of actions in the white purchased from Alfie Galifents estate are, I'll have to go check em out pretty soon.
