12 ga Lames O/U?

Made in Italy. Feels tight. Good condition. Fixed chokes labeled C and C. ( Which means what as far as constriction goes? )

Asking $550........

So help the ignorant out here, please.

fishdock:
I have seen a couple of very nice hammer SxSs with the Lames name. These were guns of the first third 20th century. All I remember of them is that they seemed well built and pleasing to look at.
There have been hundred's of good Italian gunmakers that had no claim to fame outside their areas. This is possibly a product of this maker.
The adage---look at the gun and not the name is apropos here.
Because the name is not known, this might be a worthy sleeper at that price. I would go for it if it fits and the quality is there.
Best,
John

When I worked in he sporting goods department at Woolco (remember them) 30 years ago, Woolco carried Lames O/U shotguns in 12 gauge. If I remember correctly, they were set up with 30 inch barrels and were fairly heavy - perhaps 7-3/4 pounds. They seemed a cut above most of the stuff that turned up on the racks (mostly Marlins, Savage .22s and lower grade Winchesters and Remingtons of various types). I haven't seen one advertised since the Woolco chain closed its doors.

My only suggestion to you is that you be sure you want to own the gun a long time if you buy it.

My memory of Lames was that they were very cheap(in price and quality). That Woolco sold them just reinforces that memory. The ones listed in the Blue Book suggest the same. Field model @ $400, standard trap-$600, California Trap-$700 and Skeet-$600. These prices are for 100%(new-in-box) guns.

FWIW, the 'C' choke designation usually means 'cylinder', so it may have been a skeet gun that you were looking at. Some makers used cylinder boring for that purpose.

English call such guns 'Cheap and Cheerful'. The only quality O/U guns in "$550" range are those made in Japan. Teddy Williams 400 for Sears by Nikko, and 'My Luck' by BC Miroku come to mind.
Just drop the 's' from the name and you pretty good idea of typical gun from this outfit!
