I seem to remember that either the .300 H&H or the .375 H&H was said to be really an expert gun with custom loads. This old, shot out mind can't remember which it is. Help!

Sam, The .375H&H had the reputation of shooting 232gr, 270gr and 300gr bullets to the same(or close)point of impact. Maybe, this is what you were thinking of. Mike

The 235, 270 and 300 grain bullets were said to all go to the same point of impact. Don't know if that was advertising hype or only applied to H & H rifles using Kynoch ammo. Never tried it myself. I do have a CZ in .375 and just load 235 grain bullets at a modest velocity and find it not unpleasant to shoot and both very accurate and effective on medium to large deer species. Lagopus.....

The 300 H&H had a reputation for being extremely accurate at one time. The 375 had a reputation for accuracy and versatility. It has taken a lot of game in Africa over the years. While it has no doubt taken a lot of the Big Five it is a stretch for most of them under all but ideal conditions. Still in a experts hand wha works works. Just 99% of us are not that capable of using it.

The .300 H&H was used as a long range match rifle, and I believe Winchester made a special Model 70 for the National matches. That MAY be the reference you are remembering.

Pre-64 Model 70 Target models were made in .300 H&H for a reason.

I have a 7mm Rem Mag Ruger 1V that will shoot several different bullet weights to the same point of impact. Used to load varmint bullets in it and shoot crows with the same scope settings it needed for the 145 gr. deer loads. This is not common, and this is the only rifle I have ever owned that will do that. But, they are out there.
