Oberndorf, you will need to post pics of all proofs and other markings on the barrels. I don't recall this one from the "Let see pics of your SxS'S" thread on Gunnutz. But it's a good looking gun.

Very lovely gun. Rebounding sears, built by Webley Scott. Should have both Birmingham and London proofs. A quality boxlock, you can see from the fashion of carving on the fore end and the rebounding sears. One of a pair. I think William Evans quit using William Evans from Purdey in the mid 20s. So your gun was made around mid 1920. There are others here more knowledgeable then myself here. You'll soon have a more exact description as it is a fairly well known gun.

While the board members are answering questions about this gun, could someone tell us what kind of hinge pin it has, where there is a smaller pin through the hinge pin? What is the name of this, and is it more common on Birmingham guns? Is the smaller pin called a cross pin? Thanks for any help on this question.

The pin that runs through the hinge pin is what the cocking dogs pivot on. On newer model Webleys and other trade actions, that type of pivot pin was replaced by a small slotted pin just aft of the hinge pin.
And by the way....absolutely first rate, excellent gun!!

My "William Evans from Purdey's London" is visually virtually identical to yours. My engraving is as complete as yours, but a slightly different pattern. Yours, like mine, is a treble screw grip Webley & Scott. Found on the bottom rib is a five digit serial number. I compared this number with the W&S serial numbers, and dated the BARRELS to AD1901. Can't recall where I found the W&S serial numbers on the WWW. Hope this helps.

Beautiful boxlock, quality every which way.
Just post the serial # and a bunch of us will have a race to our respective home libraries and find the date of manufacture for you.

Thanks every for the info, appreciate the help. Additional photos of the serial#, proof & barrel marks as requested.... 12 ga, Ejectors, 30" barrels. Serial# 11xxx. The insides looked pretty well made I took the pictures when my gunsmith took it apart for cleaning.
