I just finished a restoraton project - 1880 Purdey bar-in-wood 20-bore hammer gun with an interesting history.
I won't post the whole thing here but have a look at my site and go to 'ARTICLES' if you would like to see the photos and read the story.
I really enjoyed this project - very rare to find such things thesedays.

Thanks. Good to see this sort of thing. Especially here in what seems the dead of winter.

One does not shoot such a gem wearing SWISSFLAGE. You need Savile Row style and stiff upper lip all the way laddie.

Dig, great article.
Mick is right. When?
JC
P.S.: Read "Vintage Guns". Very good informative reading. Only doubt would be: what was the doggie in the last picture of the book trained to do? JC

Man's best friend indeed!
I find that cammo pattern works great for pigeon shooting (we spent the day sitting in a hedge in a gale with the Purdey - this was taken just before we got set up).
My next completion will be an 1893 Holland & Holland 12-bore bar action hammer gun. Just passed 2 3/4" London nitro proof and with the barrel blacker now. I wish I couod keep them all.

Dig has found a fine line in pigeon shooting. He shows the birds respect by wearing cammy (after all, the birds do not have to come to the part of the field you are in and they do have the option to leave, well ahead of you, if you try to go where they are). On the other hand, he shoots beautiful and interesting guns. While this appears to be a contradiction in terms, from the point of view of either purist pigeon shooters or driven shooters, it is really the best of both worlds. Leave it to Dig to figure that one out!! I suspect that little Purdey is so happy to look a bird in the eye again that it really doesn't care what 'ole Dig wears!!

I'd much rather look at Dig's guns than at his threads!

Trust me - I wear very different gear for shooting in polite company! The duck fight or pigeon hide get the scruffy look.
