I had added this on another thread that seems to have died & so I thought that I would start a new one.

Recently I was contacted by Sgt. Mosteller about purchasing a Fox "A" Grade that I had for sale. He is with the 82nd. Airborne and is currently deployed to Iraq and stationed in Sadr City. David loves double guns (you can tell that by his choice here that he has good taste) I am going to quote a few of his e-mails here so you can get a feel for the guy.

11/21/2007 "I have $1,600.00 that I was saving for a Browning Sweet 16? Also ? I would have to send you a check from here in Bagdad, Iraq. It will take 2 to 3 weeks to get there from here. My girlfriend will send the FFL and get shipped to her in Virginia or you can hold on to it and I will be home in April and get shipped to me." Thanks, David

11/22/2007 "Has the stock been shortened on that Fox, most are 14 inches or more? We have been here since January, we have only had three deaths, so not too bad to be in Sadr City." Thanks, David

11/27/2007 "Thanks!! The rocket they shot today hit our barracks, went right through the wall, but as luck would have it they (the occupants of that area) were both on leave. Every day is something different here. The craziest thing was they took rockets, pulled the war head off and attached it to two oxygen tanks, big ones, and packed ball bearings around the outside of the tanks and launched them over three hundred meters away. They actually flew that far and even had time delay fuses on the tanks. No one was hurt but it was quite interesting. I consider all of them evil. I trust no one unless they are American. We had kids try to lead us down alleys then get blown up. It is crazy here.

Thanks for the nice gun. If you find a good case, leg-of-mutton that fits that gun hold on to it for me and I will get that from you too." Thanks, David

11/28/2007 "I forget about what day it is here. The days don't really matter here when every day is the same. Thanksagain for the great gun. I can't wait to use it in the field. It will get used. We had one container of inbound mail that was hit by a morter but I haven't had a letter blown up yet." Thanks, David

11/29/2007 "Your check just left here by truck so it is now on it's way. We were hit again with morters this morning, no damage." Thanks, David

12/4/2007 "Thanks for the forward. we had a really rough week. We lost a soldier and had a double amputee this week.We have been really lucky this tour. We have only lost four soldiers considering the bad neighborhood we are in, Sadr City. Well I'm heading to my room, hope you get the check soon." David

12/7/2007 "Thanks! I'm just really looking forward to bird hunting with that Fox. It has been a long time since I have hunted, been deployed a lot since 9/11. Hopefully I can get to use it next hunting season. I assure you that it will get hunted." Thanks, David

Guys and Gals, this guy has touched my heart. When I read his e-mails & see what he has & is going through all the other BS in the world fades to insignificance. It's guys and gals like him standing watch for us that enables us to sit at our computers and talk to one another.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN IS THIS: I would like for every one reading this post to e-mail David and tell him how much we appreciate him and his fellow soldiers, sailors and marines. Tell him about your guns, talk to him about your hunts and perhaps even invite him to go hunting when he returns. You can bet that he will have a Fox in tip top shape, a nice leg-of-mutton case and a copy of McIntosh's book (at no extra charge).
HIS E-MAIL ADDRESS IS: george.mosteller@us.army.mil

Best Regards, George

OK George that sounds good.

Now how do we email him?
I have read it twice and still didn't see an email address.
Did I miss it?

George: You may have picked up on the fact that my wife and I run a B&B for hunters here in NW kansas. We have some of the best Pheasant hunting left anywhere. I am emailing Sgt Mosteller and offering to have him bring his Fox and girlfriend to hunt with us, on us, whenever he can make it. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, sounds like a great guy. Thanks, Mark, Steve, Dollar, Chux, Ken & King. I know that there are HIGH QUALITY PEOPLE on this board. I had no doubt in my mind. I know that David is just one of many of our young men & women who lay their life on the line every day for us and that we will never be able to adequately repay them for their sacrifice. In this season of sharing and from my past experiences when deployed with Uncle's Navy (about a hundred years ago) nothing was better than hearing from folks back home. In case you might want to send snail mail as well as e-mail David's address is:

I was in the Army for 4 years 1976-1980. Quiet times and no type of action. I very much appreciate what ALL of the servicemen and women are doing for us!
To David or any serviceman or woman that may see this. I would be pleased to host you on a wild Chukar hunt or Arizona quail. We have MANY spots that are good hunting. I have 4 English Setters and my hunting friends have a myriad of GWP, French and English Brittanys, English Pointers, etc.

Thanks Fred: Looks like david is going to be plenty busy next hunting season when he gets home. Just to be on the safe side I'm going to have Jim Kelly at Darlington Gun Works look over the Fox before I send it to David or his girlfriend. It's as nice a one as I've had in some time and it couldn't be going to a better home.

Best To All......George

Just received this e-mail from David:

"George I just want to say thanks for all the support you and your friends have given. I never knew that owning a double brought with it such a wonderful community. I was on the Fox website and it lists that Fox Serial Number 21073 from you under the "A" Grade, late style engraving.

The factory letter for this "A" Grade states that it is a 12 gauge with 28" barrels choked Mod/Full with a 14 1/2 inch LOP 2 7/8 inch Drop at Heel, half pistol grip and weighs 7 pounds. It was completed at the Philadelphia plant and was shipped August 19, 1927. The original consignee is recorded as John B. Varick, who was a distributor in Manchester, New Hampshire. The earlies Gough-style engraved 12 gauge gun is recorded as seial Number 21073. Just thought that you would like to know. Thanks again for everything that you have done."

NO DAVID, ALL THE THANKS GO TO YOU.......George
