I guess I missed the "Kornbrath thread".....I bet it was enlightning.

That is a beautful old Springfield shame not to shoot. I'm not sure if I'd fix it either considering it's history.

I might shoot some low power lead loads in it just so I tell folks I did. If need be I have another 06 around here someplace I can use.
Whelen gave this gun to his friend, hunting partner and guild in Alberta in 1922.

Recently I have spying luvly .410 65mm hammered beauty. It's from 1920s and sporting excellent condition. Now, where can I scrounge up some short .410 shells? I have got plenty of bushtails running about. That's about how toyinsh I'm likely to get with shotguns. Walls are for oil on canvas!

I only have two guns in my accumulator (aka Gun Safe). One is a Smith & Wesson Victory serial numbered, 2 inch barreled .38 spl with British Proof marks. It is out of time and I will not shoot until I get a roundtoit and have it totally checked out.

The other is an Army & Navy .410 Hammer gun that I just haven't gotten around to trying............ yet. This piece is a prime "refurbishment" gun as I feel it needs to be re-stocked. All the rest of the hardware is pretty damned decent considering the vintage. Any suggestions as to who can do this job? I have a nice blank that has been hanging around my shop for too many years now.

I haven't reached the stage in life were I can buy something just look at. Like others have said, it must work like it was designed to. The 100+ year old American SxS is becoming more everyday like the old American flintlock longrifles that are looked upon now as folkart. Not so much as an object of art, but a representation of an age when America was coming into its own as an industrial power, and serve to me as a link to that past, just as the Longrifle serves as a link to our early frontier. Good thread.

Call me crazy but I won't shoot my GE Lefever. Although I would like to. It is the best balanced gun in the house. Pick it up and it wants to fly. I would hate to lose it as much as the fingers.

I don't mean to change the subject or direction of this thread but anyone interested in 20th century custom rifles should get a copy of Mr. Petrov's book. Fascinating and very well researched. We need more people like him.
