Those people in the pictures are probably shooting splinter forearms. Or at least small forearms. At least it looks like the one girl in the middle has a splinter forearm. And if they are shooting trap or skeet, the barrels are going to get hot. That is what I always thought the those covers are for. I always use gloves. In the summertime, my hands sweat when I shoot clay targets. And my gun would be slippery if I did not wear gloves. All my guns are BTFE. But to each his own. Sounds like Lloyd has a good reason for wearing that protector. Good for him. That's why shooting sports is such a big business. Everybody likes what they like. 😉

Jimmy, I always shoot splinters - my fingers don't get too hot shooting skeet or trap.

Beaver forearm eliminates all these problems? I know this probably isn't popular on this site, but always wondered why anyone would want to hold onto the barrels. But I'm not a traditional SxS guy, single trigger, beaver forearm, POW stock, raised rib are my preferences. No offense meant.
My wife lets me buy all the guns I can hide.

The British typically shot with a straight L arm, holding the barrels, and erect head position "Capt. Jack" Brewer; a pre-1900s top Pigeon shooter Helpful images from the DuPont Grand Smokeless Championship Handicap Live-bird Tournament, 1895 https://books.google.com/books?id=DkMhAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA413&lpgThe Top Guns did what worked best for them, as do the Top Guns today. The shooters were in the 'ready' position so several had their heads up, but all look to be holding the barrels, or possibly a barrel guard Southern Quail hunting 1906. Crawling the stock with an exaggerated forward lean and straight L arm

After using shooting gloves for quite some time now, I've settled on Grip Swell SxS specific gloves. They are padded in all the right places for use with SxS guns and have worked very well for me. Karl

I have gone to the golf section at Dick's and bought golfing gloves before, too. They seem to be a little thicker and last a little longer. Most of them come in white.

I cut the end of the trigger finger off my shooting gloves. But, even shooting volume in hot weather, with splinter forends, I don't use gloves. They're for cold weather, IMO.
I just adapt my forehand grip to avoid the hot barrels.
