You can hardly give away a 12 gauge Spanish double gun; 28 gauge is a different matter.

If the gun will work for you with the short pull and you can get it at a great price, go for it. Sure for resale the short pull will hurt the resale value. I think sometimes people should not just consider the resale value. Most of us do not buy a car just based on which one will hold the best resale value. Buy it to enjoy it. Too may people think guns are an investment. They are not.

What John Boyd said about if you can get the subject gun for a great price sounds solid advice to me.

So what is a great price for a AyA 2 these days? So I looked at the UK gun dealers that have nice used AyA no. 2 guns in 12 gauge and what I see is less than $2,000.00 for a unmolested long butt stock and the gun in very good condition.

I would say 2K.

Prices on guns in the UK don’t align with prices here in the US:

A bunch of decent guns can be had for the equivalent of a few hundred bucks.

Gents I sincerely appreciate the feedback. I’ll admit I’m somewhat new into what I consider mid tier SxS guns. I own some nice lower tier subgauge guns (LC Smith, Fox, Ithaca/SKB) and I have enjoyed them immensely but I’m looking to spread my wings into a higher quality gun cautiously. While I enjoy the smaller bores and know there is value there I’m thinking a 12 bore will be a more economical entry into a higher grade gun for sporting clays and occasional pheasant hunts. I’ll likely pass on the gun in question but I appreciate everyone’s input as it helps in educating me in a future purchase. As they say…the search continues…..

I think there was a relatively brief period when they were well made--late 90s. I went through the factory in that time frame, ended up ordering 3 #2s in different gauges and sold 2 of them, to pay for the trip. The one I kept was a 20 gauge #2 and that one is excellent with outstanding wood. But they had a lot of issues over the years with erratic and sub-standard quality.

What sub-gauge Fox did you own that you considered "lower tier"? I would consider a graded pre-Savage Fox superior to an AYA #2. Just my opinion.
