Hi, has anyone had a problem with these ?
A guy brought one to me which had split from the latch slot , through the rear fixing screw insert hole and on the the back of the wood at the knuckle end of the iron.
When it was stripped we noticed a steel plate which was bonded into the wood about quarter of an inch from the rear of the wood, it had cracked away from this and made for a tricky repair. It's fixed now and ready to have a spot of grain pen on a small bit of filler I'd had to use near the latch slot where a small piece had dropped out.
I'm wondering whether there's an issue with the wood here and if that's why the steel insert was bonded in at the factory to beef up a weak spot ?
Any ideas please ? I can't post pictures here but could send one via email if anyone would be kind enough to post it for me.
