This is an interesting photo. Did anybody notice the size of the hands on the gent holding the Newton? I did some scaling of the photo, and here are my conclusions:
1. Assuming a LOP of 13.5", the Newton rifle is actually a carbine with a 20" barrel, 42" overall length.
2. The Model 90 Winchester, or whatever, is about 40" long, with about a 24" barrel.
3. The Newton gentleman is about 5'7" tall.
4. I am not sure the pan is a gold pan. I haven't seen one with a handle like that.
5. The men seem awfully well-fed to be hard luck gold miners, regardless how they are dressed.
