Please be advised I am aware of sluggish bbs performance. The issue is related to SQL Database and concurrent spam attacks. The Dbase is being inundated with connections that exceed the capacity of the software/server to handle causing time outs when requesting data.....
In an effort to mitigate the issue I will be updating to a more recent version of the Dbase software and a much beefier server.
This update will occur over the next 3 to 4 weeks.....The timing is not good for me as I have multiple real job events to attend to as well as graduation of my youngest kid....so please bear with me during this transition.
Assuming this goes well I will be updating the BBS main software to the latest version (only after the Dbase is working properly)...The new version will give me additional tools to stop the spam from interrupting our fun.
Thank you all for your participation...and sorry you have been experiencing poor performance over the last couple of weeks.

Dave, family along with real job comes first. If it takes a few seconds more to open, I know I can live with that.

Thank YOU for the effort you put into keeping it working well. I very much appreciate it. And, I concur that your family is first in importance. Better a slow DGJ BBS than none at all.
Thanks, Dave.

Dave,
Whatever you have done has helped. In the last few days the site has been noticeably faster for me.
Thanks again for all you do for us, Stan

Dave,
We appreciate your attention to this. Can you confirm if the update is complete as it is still very sluggish here in southern NY, usually 1-20 but sometimes 40-50 sec. to load a page.
thanks,
Rob

I have made several changes that have helped.
However, we are still getting hit by multiple spiders and spam concurrently which periodically overload the server capacity. I have minimized the SQL errors due to the overload and am getting very small errol logs compared to a month ago.
I will continue to screw with it to improve performance.

Dave: I have followed all the FAQ HINTS to sign in and stay signed in, to no avail! I even tried to change my username [not display name] and my password thinking that might help, but the system wouldn't let me do even this, HELP! This is getting to be a pain especially given the long, sign in time! TIA Jerry

I've been getting quite a few internal server errors and Gateway time outs. I even put ed good on ignore and it didn't help.

Alvin....Staying signed in has to do with your browser...clear cookies...clear cache close all browser sessions....open a new browser and login...That should square you up.
JRB....I get them too....nearly every morning. They are being caused by an influx of spiders and spammers overloading the server.....The error is always too many connetions to the dbase.
They seem to occur early in the day and then clear up. I hope to have some more time available to address the issue shortly.
