You know that you are getting old when you are looking at a gun to buy and suddenly remember that you have one just like it or in better shape already. I have been pulling out and checking barrels all week long. At the same time I have been bidding on a long barreled 16. Funny thing is that I found not one but two of them in the gun room stuck in a corner with several dozen project guns. I like projects so when one comes along I just buy it for later.

Like others I have so many toys and bought so many things that I gave lost tract of what I have. So from now on before I buy another gun, wood working tool or other toy I am going to have to ask if I have one already? It sucks to get old.

Old has nothing to do with it.
I have been pretty good so far as I have not bought a used gun since the fall, a nice American Arms Derby (Zabala)12 ga. side lock. This one has double triggers and ejectors with a straight stock. Haven't shot it yet or it's brother that I bought 4 years ago.
As for woodworking tools, always looking for more gadgets.

Anyone remember in your youth when you thought or said you now have the bases covered and will never need another gun? That was about 1000 guns ago for me.

Oh I remember what I've got....just can't remember where I put it.

To finish my "one of these days" projects, I'll have to live to be 125. Maybe that's a reason to have them.

Recognizing I'm in fact not immortal I've been selling off "project" guns although I still dabble in them. I just rehabbed a 16ga Remington 11-48. I believe this was the 1st in line for Remington semi-autos. One thing I noticed is how much better the quality is on the 11-48 internals when compared to later auto like the 1100s.
What becomes a game for me is when I open a drawer or go into an seldom used closet and pull out a gun and can't for the life of me remember where I got it or why I even bought it.

With lots of projects one never gets bored...just work on what interests you at the time. As for feeling old...it was when I realized the waitress I was calling a kid turned out to be a grandmother!!

The 11-48 was actually the second Remington semi-auto, the Model 11 being the first. It, the Model 11, was also the first autoloading shotgun to ever be manufactured in the USA. The Model 11 was built until about 1947, I think, and the 11-48 was introduced in 1949. It was a lighter and more streamlined version of the M11.

You know you're getting old when you can remember stuff like this.

Great post Jon: I am still looking for a part that I put down in the shop three days ago, for a project gun. I know it is there somewhere. I try not to get worked up over it. I try to re construct where I have been in the shop. Yup, getting old sucks.

You know, them antis who want to introduce gun control, they are meaning good for you. If you had to get a license to buy every single time you wanna buy a gun, and then take the gun to the police office to get the license to keep it, you'd remember exactly what you've got!
