Under the surface, ed's true attitude is one of hostility and an urge to control others. He see's himself as being larger than life and tends to consider himself the "authority" on any number of subjects. Since he lies compulsively, and because he feels no guilt about lying, his lies have become believable (to himself).

He needs our attention to feed the monster within...hence the number of post and comments.
