Does anyone know about the Remo company. I recetly bought a 1927 O/U Remo shotgun and have not been able to find out much about the company, what years it was in business, what it built, what happened to it. Any help would be appreciated.

Raimey,
My 5.6x61R Vom Hofe KLB is a Remo( see the writeups in "WAIDMANNSHEIL"), my first drilling(before you were born)was also a Remo, underlever 16ga/8x57IR. I no longer have it,nor photos of the markings.

I'm not certain about the details but there is a Remo Popular made on the 71 & 71/84 Mauser. Then a Remo - Geha - Hard Hit all based on the 98 Mauser action. Again not certain but my understanding is that the 98s could be had 20, 16 & 12 gau., but I have never found a 20. Except for the 71/84 I have one of each model, the Remo 98 is a good looking gun, I understand there are very few of that model around. FWIW. --- John

Thanks for the suggestions. I was hoping to find some info on when these early shotguns began to be produced?

The concern was founded in 1865, so just how early are you looking? Seems it faltered in 1946 when reparations were being shipped to Russia.

I can't find the patent right off, but I believe your are looking for the Gebrüder Rempt O/U with a unique lockup like Richard Schüler's DRP 1,105,574 from January 1930.

Does it resemble this Krieghoff O/U?

The blurb that skeettx linked for us is interesting reading. There are some omissions if not errors. The authors chastised Frank de Haas for speculating that Remo made 20 gauge two shot 98 conversions. No one mentioned the possibility of Remo making a 28 gauge. Yes they probably made 20 gauges and they positively made 28 gauges. I provenanced a beautiful 28 gauge converted Mauser through the Griffin and Howe research facility. It and others were sold by Abercrombie and Fitch. I don't own the sweet little 28, but I have handled it and Bob Beach researched it for me.
